am Jakes Inn is, understandably, the pride and joy of 200-year-old Merrickville. Lovely meeting facilities, a setting removed from city distractions yet only 45 minutes from Ottawa are very appealing to business groups. A new conference wing includes a contemporary meeting space while a second meeting room overlooking the Rideau Canal garners many votes as the most historically resonant facility in the province. Sam Jakes Inn welcomes meetings and conferences of up to 80 people with these and three additional meeting rooms
and on-site spa services.
This limestone building was the home of Sam Jakes, a prominent merchant in Merrickville's heyday of the 1860s. The entire property was very carefully restored to a 33-room inn, and all interior appointments were selected for historic authenticity as well as beauty. The exterior is postcard-pretty, with green shutters, ornate
ginger breading, and a white fence with huge round post heads.

Regional Highlights |
Sam Jakes Inn |
| |
Sam Jakes celebrates its Rideau Canal location by assisting visiting groups in organizing outings along the Canal: canoeing, boat cruises,

Because the canal is of great historic importance, there are several excellent museums along its length, including the Rideau Canal Museum in Smith Falls.
